As the inaugural blog for Stella Blue, I will start with telling you a little bit about my background and the shop. Hi! I’m Becky, owner of Stella Blue and a creative crafter and artist at heart. The creative gene runs deep in my blood. My paternal grandmother was an artist... like a REAL artist. Our family homes are decorated with her special paintings and interesting pottery pieces. She was a talented self-taught artist from a very young age and, besides raising her eight children and spending time with her grandchildren, it was her life’s passion. My paternal grandfather was a sign painter by trade (read about him in this Post-Gazette article). Many of his signs can still be seen (although a bit faded and weathered) on storefronts or sides of buildings throughout the Pittsburgh area. My father is an amazing craftsman. He has built home additions, completely remodeled homes and rooms, and builds furniture in his "spare" time. Some of my most cherished possessions are my grandmother's paintings and my father's custom-built dining room set and bedroom set. My mother even has a bit of creativity - she taught me to sew. And I'm not talking about just sewing on a button! I hem all of my own pants and dresses (I’m only 5’1”) and I've even designed and made dresses, pants, tank tops, etc. Right out of college, my dream was to be a fashion designer... but I decided to go with something a bit more practical. For my “real” job, I work in the field of communications. My job requires both writing and design skills, and I use those to create strategic communication plans that incorporate digital media, web design, print and more. So, in launching Stella Blue, I’ll be putting all of my skills and talents to work doing what I love most… crafting, being artsy and shopping!

Stella Blue will not only feature my handmade products, but those of other talented crafters and artists. I curate special pieces to sell in my online shop that complement my own items, prioritizing local crafters, fair trade products, environmentally conscious products… and just really cool stuff! All of these things will make great gifts, for yourself or someone else. If you're like me - someone who usually struggles to find the perfect gift for the person who has everything - look no further! A lot of the products on this site (especially those made lovingly by yours truly) are one-of-a-kind... special things you won't find anywhere else.

That said, I invite you to share the Stella Blue website with others, sign up to receive new blog notifications and new product alerts, visit the shop often (so it shoots straight to the top of Google), and follow me on social (@stellabluepgh on Facebook and Instagram). I truly appreciate your support... and hope you find something special for yourself or someone else!

Best,

Becky Choltco, Stella Blue Owner
